Approach

We work closely with our clients to develop a joint understanding of the problem and agree on the most appropriate path forward together. We work with each unique situation to help clients develop the bridge to their destination.

YOU MAY BE ASKING QUESTIONS SUCH AS THESE:

What is the root cause for the problems my team/organization is experiencing?

  • Often, our clients have made multiple previous attempts to address “issues” within their organization. As individuals, they believe they have a good sense of what activities need to happen, but it is as if “something is missing” when it comes to execution. There are often common root causes that causes friction in an organization, and it is important to really uncover those – before starting to try to improve.

How do I engage my whole organization in strategy development?

  • Strategy is one of the most misused words in organizations. One of the worst insults of a colleague can be that they are not a “strategic thinker”. Strategy is clearly understanding your mission, establishing the right action plan to achieve it based on the environment, and facilitating flawless execution. Pontomos works to engage a broad cross-section of our client’s organization to focus on those three elements: Clarity of mission, solid plan, execution.

How do I take the pulse of my organization and jointly develop our path forward?

  • Different tools suit different clients, and we always tailor our work to the individual client’s needs. We often help an executive (potentially a new CEO or ED) with conducting in-depth structured interviews, performing an employee survey, and facilitating a team workshop or gallery walk to jointly process the results. This in turn forms the basis for jointly developing a plan as a team.

How do I create a vision for the new strategy?

  • Vision, mission, and values are core components of an organization and provide the yardstick for individual activities. What should I do today? How should I act in a given situation? How do we treat each other on the team? The answers are all informed by these components. The strategy is simply your plan to achieve your vision.

How do I make the new strategy stick?

  • “A body in motion remains in motion unless acted upon” – this first Newtonian law of motion applies almost directly to organizations. Employees must be managed, helped, inspired and trained to change what they do on a daily basis. Changing the daily activities is where most strategy implementation falls down. You must ask, “Who needs to do what differently tomorrow?” and then help those people perform their new tasks.

How do I drive strategic changes and develop a high-performing team?

  • Pontomos believes in affecting both the soft and the hard side of team performance. For example, having shared team values while enforcing formal structures for accountability are both important and need to go together. We will work with your individual organization to develop the right mix of hard and soft measures depending on your starting point.

How do we best create impact?

  • Establish the objective of what you are trying to achieve, develop a flexible plan to achieve those objectives, and then execute that plan every day with frequent check-ins on the progress. All of these are very difficult to do – and even more difficult when required at the same time – but they are all essential.
